Description

Do you have difficulty finding a heated pet bed that fits your dog's igloo-style house properly? The K&H Lectro-Soft Igloo-Style Outdoor Heated Bed is the first soft, outdoor heated pet bed designed specifically for igloo houses! Its half-round shape fits perfectly in the bottom of these houses and allows pets to rest on or off the heated surface.

This innovative heated pet bed uses dual thermostats to warm to your dog's normal body temperature, providing warming comfort in the coldest of temperatures. The super-soft PVC exterior ensures the bed doesn't absorb water, even after Fido takes a roll in the snow!

The K&H Lectro-Soft provides energy-efficient, safe, soft, reliable comfort for your pet. Just like other K&H heated products, this bed is MET listed for safety and includes a one-year warranty. It also includes a faux fleece cover.

Care & Instructions

Usage Instructions

  1. Place the Lectro-Soft directly on a hard, flat surface in your home or inside a doghouse or kennel. The area chosen should be sheltered from direct rain or snow.
  2. Pull out the air valve on the bottom side of the bed. Plug into 110-120 volt AC outlet while the air valve is still released. Allow 15 to 30 minutes for the Lectro-Soft to begin to warm and fully expand. The unit will feel slightly warm to the touch.
  3. After desired expansion, push down on the center of the bed to remove a little air. Then push in the air plug to seal the bed. This will prevent a ballooning effect when your pet is enjoying the bed.
  4. After initial warm-up, your Lectro-Soft will feel cooler to the touch. This is the intention for energy efficiency. When your pet lies on the bed, it will warm to a comfortable temperature in even the coldest of weather.

Cleaning Instructions

  1. Wash the faux fleece cover on the gentle cycle with cold water, then line dry.
  2. The bed can be cleaned using a damp towel or sponge and mild dish washing detergent. DO NOT wash in a washing machine.

Testing Your Lectro-Soft

You can test the pad by placing a large pillow on top of the pad. After about 20 minutes, feel under the pillow. It will feel warm, not hot. DO NOT use an extension cord during this test. DO NOT place anything on the pad (other than the fleece cover provided) any other time. This should only be done during testing.

Cord Placement

To avoid giving your dog easy access to play with the cord, we recommend drilling a hole to run it out the back of the shelter. Use a 1 1/4" spade drill bit to drill a hole close to the base and push the plug and cord through from the inside.

Product Q&A

Why is there an air valve on the Lectro-Soft Igloo Style Heated Bed and how do I use it?

Lectro-Soft beds are vacuum packed for shipping, so all the air is taken out of the bed when packaged. Opening the air valve allows the foam inside to gradually expand to the original size. You will not notice a big difference in the size, but the bed will expand some. It is not meant to blow up like a balloon. It is simply meant to allow air back into the bed. This process can take up to 24 hours, depending on how long it has been vacuum packed.

Can I bend or fold the Lectro-Soft to make it fit my pet's house?

The Lectro-Soft should not be bent or folded. We only recommend placing it on a flat, stable surface.

Does the Lectro-Soft use a lot of energy when plugged in? I'm worried about high electricity costs.

Depending on size, the Lectro-Soft only uses only 20, 40, or 60 watts. It's an energy efficient product that consumes very little electricity.

Will this heat my dogs house if I place it under the dog house where he can't chew it up? The house is one of the Igloo style hard plastic.

Our heating pads should not be placed under a dog kennel. They should rest on the floor of the kennel on a flat, stable surface. You never want to place anything on top of a K&H outdoor bed or pad other than the cover provided. This cover allows the warmth to go through whereas a blanket or any other cover will trap the heat inside the bed or pad, possibly causing a malfunction.

What temperature will an outdoor heated bed or pad reach?

K&H outdoor beds and pads are designed to warm to your pet's normal body temperature of 102°F when he/she lies on the bed or pad. When your pet is not on the bed or pad, the heat will dissipate into the air and the surface temperature will vary according to the ambient air temperature.

Are your heated beds and pads pressure sensitive?

Our beds and pads are NOT pressure sensitive. All K&H heated beds and pads feature dual thermostats and are designed to warm to your pet's normal body temperature when he/she lies on the pad. This is a function of the insulation provided by a pet’s body, not the weight of the pet.

K&H beds and pads will emit heat anytime they are plugged in so your pet can sense that heat and be drawn to the bed or pad for warmth and comfort. When your pet is not on the pad, the heat will dissipate into the air and the surface temperature will vary according to the ambient air temperature.

I see that each size has a different wattage. How does that translate to the actual heating temperature?

All of our heated products are thermostatically controlled to heat to 102°F, regardless of the size. The variation in wattage is directly related to the size and the wattage necessary to heat that size bed to 102°F.

How long is the cord?

The cord is 5.5 feet long.

Can I use an extension cord with this product?

MET requires that all manufacturers put the extension cord statement “Do not use with extension cord” on every item that is MET listed by UL 499 standards. This is because they cannot test every extension cord on the market in conjunction with our products for safety. Also, MET suggests that an extension cord is not recommended as a permanent fixture and should only be a temporary solution when using any electrical product.

For more information on MET safety testing, please visit their website at www.metlabs.com.

How long can a heated bed or pad be plugged in?

MET Safety Laboratories suggests unplugging the bed if you leave your home on an extended vacation, as they do with any electrical appliance. Otherwise, it is designed for 24/7 operation and you can leave it plugged in all day. This item has been certified by MET labs to adhere to strict electrical safety standards. For more information, please visit www.metlabs.com.

Is there an off/on switch?

There is not an off/on switch. The pad is always on when plugged in.

Is placing an additional blanket or towel on top of the heated bed or pad recommended?

You never want to place anything on top of a K&H outdoor bed or pad other than the cover provided. This cover allows the warmth to go through whereas a blanket or any other cover will trap the heat inside the bed or pad, possibly causing a malfunction.

Can you place an outdoor heated bed or pad on top of another pet bed or blanket for extra cushioning?

Outdoor heated pet beds and pads should be placed on a flat, stable surface rather than on top of a bed or blanket.

Are K&H outdoor heated beds and pads waterproof?

Our outdoor heated beds and pads are water-resistant. We understand that pets collect snow and water from being outdoors. Our products are designed to be used safely with pets, even when the pet is water-soaked.

Please make sure to place the bed or pad in a relatively dry area such as a covered porch, garage, kennel or dog house. The bed or pad should not be placed where there is a potential for standing water from heavy rain and the product should not be immersed in water.

Can I place an outdoor heated bed or pad on the ceiling of a kennel in order to offer heat from above?

Our heated beds require direct contact with an animal's body and do not provide radiant heat. For these reasons, we only recommend placing a heated bed or pad on the floor or sidewall where the dog’s body will come in direct contact with the product.

Is it safe to use this without the cover?

Yes, you can use K&H outdoor heated beds and pads with or without the included cover.

For a garage, would you advise an indoor or outdoor heated product?

For a garage, we recommend an outdoor heated product. They have the features necessary to ensure your pet stays warm in even the coldest of temperatures.
